Luxury as matter, contemporary allure and pop appeal. This is Kesia Concept‘s world, a jewelry brand born from the creative flair and experience of Carla Morgantini Francisci. The Roman designer is the daughter of art by one of the most important jewelery designers of recent years: Luana Francisci. Carla, after years of observing the work of her mother decides to take her own way, moving away the right distance, to bring something new, something personal, within the contemporary jewelery scene: a haute joaillerie tailored and yet easy to wear.
Carla, you always, thanks to the work of your mother Luana Francisci, breathed the world of fine jewelery. What was the reason that induced you to embark on the road, rather courageous, to have and create your own brand?
Working with my mother and have her by my side allowed me to get interested very much in the world of jewelry, but at the same time to feel the absence of a generational change in this wonderful industry. From here it sprang in me the desire to create a new concept of jewelery, contemporary and extremely modern, abstraction that is the basis of my brand, precisely, Kesia Concept. A “luxe-à-porter” able to reintroduce my peers and in general the young women of today precious’ universe.
Compared to the jewels that make up the family tradition, those of Kesia Concept are so precious but definitely more “pop” in terms of aesthetics. What are the reasons?
Everything changed: the woman of the new generation lives in a continuous flux of time, comes out in the morning and goes back home at night through a thousand different realities in a single day: office, personal commitments, children. She wants and needs to feel more at ease on every occasion without having the need to go home and change every time. These considerations resulted in me the idea to “rethink” the concept of jewelry wearability, no longer relegated to a few occasions but functional, easy to dress and especially adaptable to every circumstance. The jewel in fact intended as an indispensable complement to any look. I wanted to give my creations a “pop” design, fun and at the same time sophisticated, ranging from bright colors with white and black resolved with a rich color palette to allow maximum customization.
For this collection you got inspired by the “The Great Lantern” by Fuksas. In what areas is visible this aspect?
I’m fascinated by the shapes transfiguration. I declined the vibrating geometries and distorted Fuksas’ “The Big Lantern” especially in the rings, proposing acute angular cuts and to create style complements with an unprecedented and architectural appeal. The initial inspiration came long ago, while I was walking to Rome and watched the work in the distance. I immediately thought that this structure, immersed in an environment so full of references from the past could reflect in a sense my idea: to give new impetus to the traditional jewelry with a new and contemporary way without forgetting its origins and our culture.
But there is also much innovation, such as the patented technology with which is realize your jewelry. What is its mechanism?
Each charm is composed of a mechanical base and an outer ornamental surface; the central pin is inserted in the basic mechanical interlocking in the holes that are located in the inner surface of all the bracelets. This system is very safe and especially practical because it allows you to change every charm with a simple gesture and no slide out and every time all the components. I thought about the pendants as small accessories-jewel to always carry in your bag and wear differently depending on the time of estrus, own style and personality.
What are your future plans?
I would like to enrich the collection of new creations, keeping the innovative component. With this in mind, the charms will be adaptable in many other unexpected ways.
