The Mediterranean has always been a place where different identities merge, creating precisely the Mediterranean culture, for its tile of life is appreciated (and envied) from around the world. The queen of this mode de vie is Italy, in particular those regions from which this culture of self has sprung up: those of the south, including the Campania and Naples in particular. And it was here that born, in 2010, from the creative inspiration of sisters duo’s Daphne and Ivana, nada for nada. A brand that evokes the intimate and truest identity of that region, expressing it through artistic works such as the Vulcano jewel, cult piece of the Neapolitan brand.
Wait! Fashion meets Daphne.
Daphne, what was the motivation that led you to call your brand of jewelry nada for nada?
Our brand is the acronym of our names, the meeting of two differences, two perceptions and the union of two women.
How do you make the idea of a jewel you have in mind? Do you do a priori research?
We leave through the things we have around, recalling them our attention. We hold them back for a while and when we release them we put on paper the suggestions made to it in a fluid modus operandi where it merges instinct and technique and where it coincides the synthesis. The elaboration of a project is a magical moment: you dedicate yourself a form, a particular curve and that you are presented innumerable times making you visit many of the day. It’s like giving vision to the thought, do materialize, from life even before the metal.
What is the jewel that represent the most nada for nada, and what is its history?
Definitely “Vulcano”. This is a jewel that continues to have more and more support, perhaps because it binds to the very identity of a place, of a city, our one. An effective design, a volcano with a spiral inside which in addition to sum up the essence of a region expresses the meaning of a sign: there are symbols that belong to us forever, like the names we carry and the forms that we create, sedimented in us and they come out shooting breath in a new form. Volcano was first pendant, then earrings, then ring and then sculpture, is one of those projects of which we are fairs, we are honored to have draw it. It is pleasant to touch, follow its movements with your hands and see your own reflection on its mirror surface. An area that distorts you, deconstructs you, makes you recognize yourself.
Contemporary jewelry it is not often easy to interpret and use. What are the limits that mark it and these may be, however, the strong points?
Yes, the contemporary jewelry often does not allow an easy reading as it deviates from what is immediately recognizable; but it is also true that there is always a content that refers to the meanings and are often the same that moved the author’s hand. The content has to do with emotions and these are an easier way to reach the heart of a thing. This type of jewelry can be a stimulus in the game to play a certain form. It allows you to receive an object and not force him to a single static and uninspired view. It gives the ability to imagine, to make you linger for a while, for a few minutes or for as many times as you hold hands and get in touch with it, where something happens.
Future projects?
There are two projects: one ready to go waiting for a start and on the preparation of two “Elba” jewels, aimed at developing the theme of travel around the figure of Napoleon to his exile on Elba. Interesting project, born from territorial regeneration method, created by the Tourism experiential of ABOUT’s group. The second work to which we are paying, we care particularly is “Exa” a creation which is linked to femininity with many symbols on the inside that all refer to the profound value of being a woman. And again the symbol returns: evidently we need them to “put together” parts of ourselves.
