At Pitti in the My Factory I find that there is a brand that is called Ko Samui. People like me who has been in Thailand, probably like me will turn on like a light bulb simply reading that name. It seemed minimal to me to go disover what this brand was. So: here we are. We are faced with an Italian brand of t-shirt.
And these days maybe we are faced with the most inflated market of the time, the more devoid of ideas. A market that perhaps has squeezed all. Where now you can find t-shirts to 9 euro and the 29 euro to the public that seemed economic three years ago, now the public feels them almost expensive.
A market that perhaps said it all. Or maybe not. Because in front of Ko Samui, I immediately had some good vibes. A kind of excitment.
Perhaps t-shirt I have to get back to basics, to tell our youth myths, legends and movies. The film in fact. Those of Ko Samui have revisited within one of their sub-collections posters of film-legend. Banal idea? Not really, if you have in your team a designer so good to create small posters, sometimes more beautiful and iconographic than the original. There are many of my movie myth: Gran Torino, the Goonies, Rocky, Back to the Future, Ghostbusers, Shining to name a few. Basically I would like to have them all at once. But we move to another sub-collection: here another brilliant graphic (not sure if even more brilliant than the first), in fact, a true artist, named Marco Bortolino revisited according to his style all the characters of cult movies. Some names? Ace Ventura, The Big Lebowski, Bill Murray in Ghostbusters. Really well designed. And finally, last part of the collection, another graphic genius, has redesigned some characters-icons, we think only to the Dalai Lama with hair-crest on his head and flashy shirt.
The brand is Italian but their agent Ivan (of Italian descent but living in London) is working to open also the UK market.
If you are looking for a brand of t-shirts that do what they a t-shirt need to do, be posters of our passions, Ko Samui is the new name and the right one.
