Only The Brave acquires Jil Sander. The news was confirmed today, March 5, 2021, at Woman’s Wear Daily.
The OTB Fashion Group, an acronym that indicates the wording ‘Only The Brave’, was founded in 2002 by the Italian entrepreneur Renzo Rosso, and already has some of the most famous brands of the moment. Maison Margiela, Marni, Viktor and Rolf and Diesel are just some of the names owned by the holding.
The German brand, originally created by the homonymous designer in 1968, was now owned by the Japanese group Onward Holdings.
With the sale of 100% of the shares to the OTB group, Renzo Rosso comments on the entry of Jil Sander with enthusiasm and enormous respect:
“I have always looked at Jil Sander with respect and admiration. Despite the changes in ownership and creative direction, the brand has remained faithful to the vision of its founder, with great attention to the beauty and quality of the product, with an unmistakable minimalist approach”
The details of the sale have not yet been deepened or disclosed, but we know that in 2008, the previously owner group had taken over the minimal aesthetic brand for a sum of 167 million euros.
The question that the Fashion System does not take long to ask is whether, with the new management, the brand will still follow the path it had undertaken with the creative direction of Luke and Lucie Meier, who have followed the brand since 2017.
The unconventional character of the brands within OTB, however, gives good hope that Jil Sander will remain strongly characterized by the personality that has so far distinguished him: that sober and timeless aesthetic, typical of the minimal appeal, that the German designer has since immediately given to the brand.
