A concept. An aesthetics. This is what is searching Vittorio Branchizio, founder of the eponymous brand of men’s fashion born in 2014 with the presentation of the summer collection of knitwear. His work is based on solid foundations and on a constant search of inspiration that leads him to confront with other arts and artists such as Pascal Pillard, Uroš Mihić and Sergio Perrero.
When and why did you decide to build your brand?
The idea has grown in recent years. I needed to express myself in a project of my own.
To what extent experience has affected on your work?
At the beginning of your own experience I think one learns to make mistakes, to grow and to learn. If you meet the right company one can really learn a lot. I think even when you’re already technically ready there are still many more things to learn. You have to be curious and eager to grow.
How do you build a collection?
Normally I start with an inspiration that can be external or emotional. Of course, the technical research and searching of the right yarn is a strong component in the creative process of my collections.
Inspiration, creativity and know-how. What is the percentage impact of them?
Probably they are equal merit. I am constantly inspired by the world of the arts, and I absorve a lot from my collaboration with different artists all the time. In knitwear also the technical component is very important if you want a truly innovative.
At what point is made in Italy today?
There seems to be a recovery. The market – after a very strong crisis – is very demanding, buyers looking for something new and the quality of the made in Italy, combined with an ongoing research, that is able to offer is a great value to keep active.
What are the difficulties you encountered in emerging as a designer?
First of all economic. The effort is big and you have to be very determined, going straight to the finish line and just to be clear, making it only when you are ready, otherwise I think the difficulties are even bigger.
Future projects?
For now I continue with my project growing. Through my artistic collaborations I’m having very exciting new ways to see things.
