Jump, defy your fate and win. This is the story of Eva Grossutti, a Friulian young woman who in 2016 founded her jewelery brand: Rumble Jewels. The name is synonymous with break with the past of contemporary jewelery, but also with her own, to break into this new creative reality.
Eva, how did the idea of creating Rumble come and, above all, why did you choose this name?
The idea came from the desire to shake, from a creative point of view, the current configuration of contemporary jewelery and, above all, its clients. The goal is to produce a particular effect when the person wearing my jewelry comes in the room: they must surprise. My creations are bold yet wearable. The name “Rumble” was born because I wanted to be the emblem of something strong, powerful, and to suggest a rhythm, the creative one.
From the technical point of view, what is your approach?
I guess I’m a bit anarchist: I made of the pieces as I created them, such as “error” ring that has spawned the Scars collection, other are results of a careful reflection and more by the desire to play, to experiment. Therefore I don’t apply a precise method. If, however, while I project the idea is the right one then the I move it forward to the end. Currently I’m having a lot of in the producing progress because I feel free.
Even to the market?
Yes. I think, about that speech is relative: I know what works commercially, but I always try to be myself, I want to give every me to create my mark.
We can say that there are two Rumble’s main lines: Outer Space and Scars. How they came about?
Outer Space is born with the aim of recycling the silver powder that I get from residues of other production, such as those produced by Scars. Combining this with borax I get a kind of sludge that, with a small brush, I apply on previously silver circles created. Finally with the flame I take them to a temperature that produces a sort of “caramelization”. The next step will be to achieve a sphere, then a three-dimensional object, always with the same technique. Scars, instead, are of slabs in wax that I sawed in half deliberately leaving the sign of the saw. After that, following the merger silver, I smoothed and burnished them.
Why do you mainly use silver?
I like the icy color and the pure forms that you can get from it. I like the copper, for example, and also other alloys, but when I have to make a choice I always go back to using the silver. It is more versatile.
What are your future plans?
I would like to create new pieces and find a workshop where I could do it. But I will not be just me, I’d like to share it with other people who have my passion for craftsmanship.
