Vans celebrates the #VansCheckerboardDay with the launch of a charity auction in collaboration with eBay for Charity, with a collection of footwear and backpacks designed by Vans Global Ambassadors to inspire creative expression. From 11th to 21st November Vans fans can visit the appropriate eBay web page to bid on their favorite items; the proceeds will be collected for the benefit of Imagination.org and its mission to promote and finance the creativity of young people around the world.
The Vans Checkerboard Day charity auction will include a Vans Classic Slip-On and an Old Skool III backpack from each ambassador including: Christian Hosoi, Geoff McFetridge, Kim Jaekyung, Brighton Zeuner, Laurie Vincent, Steve Van Doren and others emphasizing the importance of creativity in one’s life.
“There are very few brands that encourage their athletes to break the mold and be creative in the way they choose to express themselves,” said Brighton Zeuner, the Olympic skateboarder and world champion of the Vans Park Series. “My Vans family knows how much I’m passionate about fashion and how much I love expressing myself following my style – both inside and outside the skate parks – and designing a unique design to help others express themselves was an offer I couldn’t refuse ”.
Vans Checkerboard Day expands Vans’ ethics of “Off The Wall” and the purpose of the brand to allow creative expression through its fundamental pillars: action sports, art, music and street culture. On November 21st Vans will donate 1 million dollars in proceeds from sales to Imagination.org, supported by Two Bit Circus Foundation. “The Vans Checkerboard Day includes everything that we as a company represent,” said Steve Van Doren, vice president of events and promotions at Vans. “Vans has always tried to promote thinking out of the box to support creativity and to celebrate what makes each of us unique. Our charity auction offers our global Vans family and newcomers the ability to reinforce each other through creativity, while supporting a charity that is leading the struggle for self-expression among young people”.
