Take an apparently simple garment like a t-shirt, a sweatshirt, a jeans and then take some color. Dye the fabric unevenly. What will come of it? A tie-dye print.
This fabric dyeing technique is further proof that the return to the past is a constant in the world of fashion and, although there is continuous experimentation, there are as many garments and iconic elements that are continuously recovered and reused by different brands.
Tie-dye is a very ancient technique, of Indian tradition, which over time has become a true degradé print with a psychedelic effect. Going from the 60s and 70s with hippie culture, to the 90s until today, this technique has rekindled the desire of many brands to create exclusive, recognizable garments with their own identity. The tie-dye trend has already appeared in the SS18 fashion shows with brands such as MSGM, Attico, Chanel, it’s returned in the latest Spring/Summer fashion shows. This trend has appeared not only among luxury brands such as Alberta Ferretti, Dior, Aniye By, which have taken up a very sophisticated tie-dye reinterpreting it according to different styles, just think of Dior shirts that stretch into tunics with a degradé print in blue and white colors.

Many streetwear brands have also made this brightly colored pattern into a true strength. Rip N Dip, Levi’s, Octopus, Mauna Kea, Nike, are just some of the names that have decided to make t-shirts, shirts and all kinds of accessories, unique and characteristic garments of this season. While, for example, Rip N Dip has launched the new SS21 collection mainly characterized by t-shirts with bright colors accompanied by prints and graphics with a witty character, Mauna Kea, instead, has created an entire collection designed with hi-tech materials, natural fibers and the application of this incredibly versatile technique.

In short, for the Spring / Summer season everyone relies on the fact that thanks to this technique, taken from the past, garments don’t look the same, they become unique, inimitable, exclusive pieces for anyone who wears them. That’s why tie-dye is not just on trousers and t-shirts anymore but also on blazers, hats, fanny packs, socks. The entire wardrobe is dyed with this pastel-colored print that becomes the guarantee of an unmistakable style that is in step with the times.
