Uniqlo for this 2021 has decided to add to its large list of collaborations the one with the British graphic designer Fergus ” Fergadelic ” Purcell.
We know how Purcell is a celebrated figure in the world of fashion, especially streetwear. In fact, it was his idea to create the Tri-Ferg logo signed by Palace Skateboards. This has become a real milestone for the brand that has decided to use it also in subsequent collections.
The strength of the partnership between Uniqlo and Fergus Purcell is undoubtedly the use of rather bold graphics. Together they tried to evoke street fashion by focusing on playfulness and graphics that do not go unnoticed both for the font and for the size chosen. The inspiration comes from comics, from the covers of music albums before the arrival of digital and from the ‘popularity and universality’ of pop art.

‘This collection should celebrate optimism, look to the future, celebrate worlds that are beyond what we are now’
says Fergus Purcell in the video of the campaign for the launch of the collection. What is evident is that the t-shirts are for him like a billboard, a kind of canvas with works of art and graphics that people wear and carry around the world. Fun, irreverence, humor. All qualities present in this work based on the idea that our eyes are continuously stimulated by what surrounds us. Everything is graphic and this is why our gaze cannot know boundaries.
The Fergus Purcell x UNIQLO UT collection will be released in the United States online and at UNIQLO locations on June 17th.
