On January 29th, registrations were opened to participate in the Woolmark Performance Challenge. This is a competition created by The Woolmark Company and one of the most famous sports brands in the world, Adidas. The protagonists of the competition are university students in the field of fashion and design, while the goal is to develop an innovative and performing product in the sports market, exploiting the scientific benefits and natural performance of Australian Merino wool.
“At Adidas we are driven by a constant desire for innovation and by the conviction that anyone can and should be a creator”, explains Tillmann Studrucker, Senior Design Director of Adidas. “This partnership with The Woolmark Company offers young students the opportunity to help shape the future and culture of sport, and I look forward to seeing creative projects that take sustainability into account with ideas of innovative materials that combine performance and style, past and future. ”
No wonder about this joint venture. After all, the Australian company has been promoting young fashion talents for a long time, and to prove it is history: perhaps not everyone knows that another award from the non-profit company, whose famous logo was created by the architect Franco Grignani under pseudonym of Francesco Saroglia, is The Woolmark Prize, formally born in 1953, starring the young Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent, both winners the following year. Today the kermesse continues the work of research and selection of talents (the registrations are already open for the 2019 edition, ed), and the 2017/2018 edition saw the triumph of Matthew Miller, for man’s fashion, and Bodice, for woman’s. Furthermore, sportswear is becoming more and more an occasion for daily use, therefore no longer limited to sports activity.
“This new competition offers a unique experience with a leading brand in the sport industry,” said Stuart McCullough, Managing Director of The Woolmark Company. “New talents represent the future. The Woolmark Company actively believes in educating and promoting the next generation of designers.”
A three-month internship at the headquarter of the German sports fashion house is among the prizes offered to the winner, which will be announced during the ISPO Munich 2019, while the finalists will be announced in June this year. In addition to the collaboration, a prize of 10,000 euros will be awarded. Finally, the deadline for submitting entries is 25 May 2018. Good luck!
