“Strike a POSE!”, sings Madonna in the single “Vogue” but is not referring only to the fashion magazine, she refers to Voguing, a style of dance born between the years 60′ and 80′ during the competitions for Drag Queen.
Voguing really established itself in the ’80s in New York, especially Harlem, where it was danced during the Ball Room.
But what is a Ball Room and above all what does it have to do with the TV series on Netflix, ‘POSE’?

Ball Rooms and Ball Culture are just one of the reasons why POSE should be seen and in this article we will explain them all, obviously avoiding spoilers!
The LGBT culture
The TV series is set in an ‘80s New York, during the rise of the Trump Empire, where the African-American LGBT community was on the fringes of society.
Being repudiated by their families and rejected at work did not prevent members of the LGBT community of that time from helping each other and gathering in places where they could finally feel accepted.
The emancipation of the African-American homosexual community is then also addressed in relation to the spread of AIDS.
During the various seasons, in fact, we discover that many of the characters are sick and we live with them the pain of the death of friends.
It is a strong theme, and unfortunately also a topical one, which is being tackled with enormous seriousness.
Ball and Voguing

The “file rouge” that unites the characters and their tormented lives is the Ball Room.
It is a place where the LGBT community meets today and where wonderful things happen.
A ball is a dance challenge or runway and there are categories, an audience, judges, and trophies.
Many of the categories include challenges to Voguing, a style of dance that consists of imitating in a fluid or rigid plastic poses of models during fashion shows or on the covers of Vogue magazine.
Houses or families
The members of the various Houses compete during the Ball.

What are they?
At the time when POSE was set, the Houses were real families and the members lived together with also a ‘mother’ and a ‘father‘.
All the components of these families were chosen.
You will see how the characters, who were previously removed from biological families, that will be welcomed and cared for by ‘parents‘ who love and accept them as they are.
Because who better than them knows how it feels to be rejected.
Each House takes its name from a high fashion brand or from a character linked to the environment. That of the protagonists of the TV series is the house Evangelista (as the model).
The fashion

If you need more glitter in your life POSES will give you tons of it!
Because there is no place more lavish, creative, and eccentric than a ballroom.
The clothes to participate in a challenge must be whimsical and must cast in the shade (in the jargon “Shade” ) the other competitors, in short HAUTE COUTURE.
Love

Dessert at the end, right?
Well, POSE like all respectable TV series is full of love stories, many of which return to face LGBT themes.
But we don’t want to anticipate anything, because here the spoiler risk is really very high!
So… we just have to wish you a GOOD VISION!
