Have you ever tried to reflect on the role of frames, in the exhibition of a painting or a photograph? Or, on the contrary, given their being simple ornaments, has it never been necessary to deepen the question? And yet, let’s think about it, a work of art is not such if that contour that adorns it is not adequate or even if it is non-existent. Countless are the times when, visiting a gallery or an exhibition in a museum, you thought to change them, in fact. To replace them with something more suited to your aesthetic taste, especially in the case of portraits, where the face is the protagonist. And although in the tangible, organic reality of the human being it is above all the hair that acts as a boundary, sometimes fashion comes into play and, in particular, accessories, from hats to glasses. And it is precisely from these latter that the speech moves.
Piercing is the iconic eyewear collection by Alexander McQueen, present since the first fashion show. Over time it has seen the models evolve, season after season, up to that conceived for spring – summer 2018, which introduces several novelty: first, in fact, the frame, then the actual construction of the glasses, represented by the signature metal bar of the fashion house, which passes directly through the body of the frame, always in metal.
There are two unisex proposals, and the same number of frames are available: a faceted shield and a more classic round shape. But for the warm season it was decided to introduce a model dedicated exclusively to men and consists of a pair of sunglasses with a typical silhouette of the aviators, with the addition of the stylistic signature of the English maison, emphasized by the construction of faceted angles and the metal bar. All made in Italy, the pieces, also available in the glasses version, are available in light gold, matt black, brown and dark silver.
Alexander McQueen once again confirms the uniqueness of its fashion philosophy, created by his eponymous founder, namely Lee McQueen, who died prematurely in 2010. One, perhaps the last, of the geniuses of the sector; a creator of worlds, of imaginary reality, of clothes-concept. Yes, it’s true, here we are dealing with fanciful objects, but the point is that now, more than ever, to appear unique and real is the only value that should be cultivated, and the face is just the beginning of this mechanism, as well as the id card with which we present ourself to the world.
