2021 was the year of the Air Jordan 4, a silhouette designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1988 and first released in 1989.
Last year this model began its real climb to popularity and today we can say with certainty that it has become part of the hall of fame of the sneakers most loved by footwear fans.
If initially it was thought that the Air Jordan 3 were impossible to overcome, Hatfield’s design proved the opposite. Being much thinner and lighter, the Jordan 4 won over anyone, even Michael Jordan, not only because of their aesthetics but also for their comfort.
At the beginning 4 colorways were released: White Cement, Black Cement, Military Blue and the iconic Fire Red, which featured the classic Chicago palette, characterized by white and bright red. The Black Cement was also the first Jordan to ever use nubuck leather, which is now quite common in this silhouette.
Over the years there were produced many different models.
Let’s see together which, in our opinion, are the most iconic ones.
Air Jordan 4 OG Fire Red
Let’s start with the most famous model, which has just celebrated its 30th birthday. This silhouette was re-released in 2020, achieving a great success among the nostalgics. With its white leather upper and contrasting fire red details, it will forever remain a must-have among sneaker lovers.
Air Jordan 4 OG White Cement
First featured in Spike Lee’s film Do The Right Thing in 1989 and re-released 10 years later, these black and white sneakers, with grey details and splashes of paint that recall the elephant print of the Jordan 3, deserve a place on the list of the most beautiful Jordans ever.
Air Jordan 4 OG Black Cement
This model was the first one to be released worldwide and debuted for the first time when Michael Jordan worn it during the All-Star Game in Houston. No other reason is needed to justify their iconic nature.
Air Jordan 4 OG Military Blue
Although they have never been worn by MJ, they remain among the sneakers most desired by fans. This year was also released a reinterpretation of this model, the Air Jordan 4 Golf Military Blue.
Off-White x Jordan 4 Sail
Obviously we have to mention this silhouette made in collaboration with Off-White. The design proposed by Virgil Abloh has been so successful that it is still on of the most desired even though it was released in 2020. The beige colors and translucent details also inspired the Retro Shimmer model.
Jordan 4 University Blue
The University Blue colorway, inspired to the University of North Carolina, is one of the most used by the Jordan brand and it has always a great success.
Jordan 4 Black Cat
With the total black you never go wrong. This model made of premium suede is definitely ideal for the colder months.
Jordan 4 Lightning
Released alongside the Thunder model in 2006, these yellow and black Jordans were part of a very limited stock that made them very popular.
Levi’s x Air Jordan 4 Navy
Made in collaboration with one of the most famous denim brands and completely covered with this fabric, even in the midsole, these sneakers are certainly among the most unusual and original of the selection.
