There are fashion designers who like to dress the body because they are fascinated by the different silhouette. There are also designers who use their creative abilities to communicate a message that goes beyond the physical, the aesthetic side. This is the case of Italy’s Ilaria Lepore who lives and creates clothes in London where she founded her own brand in 2012. Her is a true work of dialectic between masculine and feminine sense of style: an ode to fashion and androgen style.
When and why did you decide to create your brand?
It was officially founded in London in 2012, from my strong desire to live again fashion as a genuine artistic expression.
What are the qualitative aspects you focus on the most?
There are a lot of aspect on which I focus particularly. Qualitatively, it is all very important: from the use of fabrics to the research of detail and finish the entire product; also I use Italian fabrics and our local manufacturing, to uphold the quality of my product.
How the creative process blends with the production?
In my case there is no merge: the production process is the result of the creative one: an idea which then turns into a product.
What aspect of your fashion that you want to bring out?
Individual freedom.
Five adjectives that describe Ilaria Lepore’s style:
Underground, provocative, visionary, experimental and black.
What are the main difficulties that you encountered in emerging as a designer?
The difficulties that all independent designers like me see, such as economic and recognition in the market.
Future projects?
Doing my first fashion show.
