Off to young people. This is the Manifattura di Domodossola motto that, for the fifth consecutive year chooses to reward young creativity.
In fact, on the occasion of the 96th edition of Linea Pelle, Manifattura di Domodossola, leader in the sector of leather braiding, presented the “Intreccincantiere” fashion contest. More than 100 competitors came from the most important international fashion schools that made leather goods prototypes using the braiding technique.

An exceptional jury made up of experts from every sector such as Monica Alberici (Product Manager Christian Louboutin), Antonio Gavazzeni (CEO Bagutta), Daniele Guidi (Italian Nautical Vice President), Raffaello Napoleone (AD Pitti Immagine), Bruna Rossi (Fashion Director IO Donna) and Bav Tailor (Fashion Designer) has awarded a prize for each category in the competition: leather goods, clothing, footwear, jewelery and interior design.
Manifattura di Domodossola has also decreed the “Athison Award”, in honor of its luxury accessories brand. New in 2019, this award aims to increase the collaboration between schools and industry, with the ultimate goal of bringing the best proposals into the future collections of the Athison brand.
INTRECCINCANTIERE 2019: THE WINNERS
“Transformation” has been the common denominator of winning projects.
The jury, in fact, rewarded what was the ability of young designers to be able to interpret in a totally new way the technique of weaving of the Manufacture of Domodossola, without however neglecting the portability and final use of the prototypes made.
Among the award-winning fashion schools, Tokyo’s Mode Gakuen and the Next Fashion School in Bologna are confirmed again; among the new entries instead we find the Polimoda of Florence, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and the Harim of Catania.
The winners:
Leather Goods Award: Ilenia Bernardo (Next Fashion School – Bologna)

Interior design award: Martina Cillari, Poonivan Samy Kuppan (Harim Euromediterranean Academy – Catania)

INTRECCINCANTIERE 2019: THE AWARDS
The Lineapelle CEO Fulvia Bacchi, moderator of the event, underlined how the “Intreccincantiere” competition, turning its attention to young people, manages to convey the value of Made in Italy materials, a sector well represented by Manifattura di Domodossola with its brand of leather goods Athison.

Giuseppe Polli, CEO of the company commented: “The idea of this competition, now in its fifth edition, was born many years ago. The world of work and that of school are two fundamental pillars for Italian society and our competition seeks to connect these two worlds. In Italy there are excellences that work: both from the scholastic point of view, and today we have the proof, and from the industrial one. I am thrilled to have President Fontana and Assessor Magoni here today to tell the story of Manifattura di Domodossola, a company, but above all a great family that has succeeded in establishing itself internationally despite the distance from the canonical fashion districts”.
The event then continued with the intervention of Bruna Rossi, Fashion Director of the weekly Io Donna, who quoted the unforgettable Franca Sozzani as saying: “Young people must be prepared and free from prejudices, they must try to find their own expressive path without going deceptive shortcuts. Creativity but down to earth, because it is with the market that one must come to terms ”.
The ceremony continued with the handing over of the plaques that the young designers received directly from the hands of Attilio Fontana, the Lombardy Region President and from the Assessor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion Lara Magoni.

A more limited awarding ceremony will also be held next month in Japan at the Manifattura showroom in Domodossola, where it will receive the Daisuke Oguchi award, a student of Mode Gakuen from Tokyo.
The competition offers multiple opportunities for visibility to the winners: for example, some of the most beautiful garments will be exhibited at the Athison stand on the occasion of the next Mipel, Pitti, Lineapelle and Zoomark.
