Felipe Oliveira Baptista has been appointed as new creative director of Kenzo, a fashion house founded in 1970 by the Japanese designer Kenzo Takada and now owned by LVMH.

The designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista, born in Paris but with Portuguese origins, is best known for his role as creative director of Lacoste, a position he held for eight years until May 2018.
Kenzo‘s DNA has always been fun and imaginative, drawing on bright colors and bold prints. Baptista, at least during his stay at Lacoste, interpreted things somewhat more safely, with an elegant and minimal aesthetic. His assignment to Kenzo will probably be a change, ushering in a very different era.
Although it is well known for his best-selling clothes decorated with embroidered or painted tigers, as well as for clothes decorated with gigantic “evil eyes”, Kenzo remains a relatively small player in terms of revenue and LVMH hopes that Baptista’s record for commercial success achieved in Lacoste can make a difference also for Kenzo.

Baptista will take over from designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. After eight years at the Kenzo’s helm, co-creative directors greeted the brand with a final fashion show in Paris last month.
