A bit of beat, rhythm, few rules, a lot of passion. Places often crumbling, cheap drinks, wooden counters marked by time. It is the world of American jazz that is remembered in our memories, after reading novels or seen films in which the theme is either a protagonist or a simple appearance. In any case, the fact that the musical genre in question is understandable and pleasing to hearing, only for selected users, able to understand how an apparently discordant melody, is in fact fluid, catchy thanks to the soul of who it sounds. And it is this aspect, concentrated in the mother city of this musical art, or New Orleans (USA), that inspired the autumn-winter 2018 collection by Giuliana Mancinelli Bonafaccia, made in Italy jewelry and accessories designer.
“Jazz music must be played with a sweet, soft and full rhythm”, says the American pianist J.R. Morton. With this inspirational phrase the creator introduces her models, which differ a lot from the previous ones, created years ago. Meanwhile, they lose color: since the collection dedicated to the Memphis Group, Bonafaccia has used colors as one of the aesthetic expressions of her bijoux. In the latter case, he prefers to emphasize their structure, made possible by artisan intuitions. As if he imagined seeing the notes of a piece of music hovering in the air.
The south of the United States of America is not famous only for the genus in question, but also for another element, definable mystical: the art of voodoo, accompanied by traditional magical rituals. And here the flow of notes, together with the instruments that generate them, plunges into metaphysics under the form of vevè, drawings of the voodoo deities used by jazz players as good luck.
The collection presents some innovations, among which “the creole earrings and the spiral shape, recurring element, that we find on bangle, mini ring and brass chocker soaked in gold, ruthenium and rhodium. a touch of glamor and harmony to the entire collection “, explains the Roman designer.
For next winter the jewels according to Giuliana Mancinelli Bonafaccia, are stripped of tinsel, preferring the content to the form. These are pieces with character, to wear for special occasions, not to be confined to everyday life, because they are singular. For connoisseurs, such as jazz.
