It had been a dream in the drawer for many years.
Being able to bring Wait Fashion to China. Or rather, create the new edition of Wait Fashion Magazine in China, to create a bridge between two cultures: the Asian and the Western one and to connect them in a way that the best of fashion, art and sensitivities could talk and grow together.
For many years it seemed like a dream: because these goal needed the right person. A person almost impossible to find. A person with many characteristics: Chinese roots but who had lived and known the European culture. A person who was determined and concrete to achieve an ambitious goal but who at the same time was first of all in love of what we do: art, fashion and contemporary culture: a person not only interested in business but also in the human, artistic part of Wait Fashion.
A person with a deep knowledge and sensibility of fashion.
Too many features for one person: the one who could have undertaken this project.
Instead, one day, when I didn’t expect it, we met her: she is called Kai (obviously her nick name) and she is the person who will bring Wait Fashion to China.
She is very young but determined and she is such a multifaceted and original character that we decided to interview her and introduce her to Italian and European audience.

Hi Kai: first of all welcome to the Wait Fashion family!. Are you ready for this new adventure?
Yes, I’m honoured and thrilled to be a part of this adventure.
Tell us about your training. When the love for fashion was born and when you decided it would become your job?
Back when I was just a child I was influenced by my grandpa. I remember sneakily changing into my mum’s clothes and venture out on the street for a catwalk. When I turned 18,I disregarded my family’s opposition ,went to Beijing alone and dived into my beloved fashion industry.
Stylist, fashion designer, painter, artist. Which of these terms defines you best?
I think labels are limitations. I love them equally and I would like to be seen as versatile by this industry as well.
Tell us about your background as a make-up artist: I know that you have a team of your own, and that you work for important shows also for Chinese TV. Tell us what the strength of your team is.
We communicate. We cooperate. And We conquer. We just perform so well together we have that magnetic chemistry like a true family.
Kai as a stylist: we got to see your beautiful mood-boards, and the collaborations that were born with very important Chinese artists. Tell us how this specialization of yours was born.
From work, it’s a bridge to communicate with various departments ,as well as an output to show your aesthetics and ideas. And styling is my personal strong suit.
What are the famous artists you created the looks for? Tell us who they are and what they do, we in Italy probably don’t know them !
Leigh Bowery, he is my favourite artist .who’s both a performance artist and a fashion designer . He’s been simply an inspiration for me.
And now the stylist Kai. We know you have a dream in the drawer: to develop your brand. How do you imagine it? What will be its characteristics?
I’m a big fan of the fetish culture. And I hold my Chinese background dearly. So I imagine it to be a crossover of both sides while expressing myself.
Tell us which brands and stylists you love the most and which ones provide you with more inspiration.
K:Alexander McQueen
Point us 2 or 3 Chinese brands, which could soon become famous also in Italy.
Xander Zhou and Windowsen
You have lived the last year in Florence and Milan for several months. What did you like about Italy? And what did you not like?
For me who came from a rather held back and conservative culture I was fascinated by how open and free everyone felt with expressing themselves. What did I not like? Nonsense I’m in love with Italy.
Your future: do you see it in Italy, in Europe, in China or at the turn of the various continents?
Continents do not limit my ambitions. My dream is to establish my business internationally.
How do you imagine Wait Fashion China? What will be the characteristics that you will be able to get from Italy and what will be the news that you will introduce to make the Chinese public fall in love?
It surely won’t be easy paving our way into the Chinese market as there are already many fashion publication giants with marvellous insights. But I still hope it will bring something fresh to the Chinese readers.
When will you tell our readers more details about Wait Fashion China?
Wait a while. We are working hard. I only tell you that the magazine will be digital but also printed. That we will work with covers that will highlight Chinese artists, actors and rock-stars, that the photographic and style care will be very high and refined. That is all for the moment!
