“Adieu Céline”.
The French luxury brand is now Celine, a decision made by Hedi Slimane. On Sunday (September 2), the new artistic and creative director completely canceled the label’s Instagram account, replacing the brand images under Phoebe Philo’s reign with three new posts announcing the logo’s change.
Exploring the archives in depth, the updated logo is a tribute to the original Celine logo of the 1960s and presents the modernist typography of the 1930s. Not only has the accent been removed on the E, even the spacing between each letter has been tightened, giving the logo a much more condensed overall appearance.
The revelation of the new logo came shortly after Slimane unveiled her first handbag for Celine, as seen recently on the arm of the huge designer’s support and friend, Lady Gaga.
The layout of the Celine website has also been altered and now sees a countdown to the first presentation of Slimane’s catwalk for the fashion house, which will take place on September 28th during Paris Fashion Week.
