She opened her brand thirteen years ago. In this decade she has managed to grow and to place her collections in the most prestigious stores. Long and complex path, however, has led her to dress Madonna, the American singer who with her looks brought luck to many designers in the nineties. This is the story of Alessandra Cappiello and her Morfosis fashion brand. Which the designer tells in this interview.
Alessandra, you founded Morfosis in 2004. How has the brand evolved to this day?
Starting from a small but prestigious audience, the brand has been appreciated in the best Roman stores and then positioned itself on Italian territory to finally move to an international distribution. It was a great challenge, carried forward with great tenacity and obstinacy in a particularly difficult time for a small brand like ours. I can feel very satisfied and even more determined than the beginnings.
In an era that pushes towards homologation, what is change for you and how do I express it in your collections?
The aspiration to something new always marks my woman, whose will is to express herself in essential and refined tendencies, or more androgens, and move within different scenarios and environments, pursuing her multifaceted aesthetics. Every woman can make a choice. It has her style and personality to compose and break into the kaleidoscope of proposals, collection after collection.
You titled Imperfection your line for next winter. From where it all started?
I associate imperfection with originality and independence. And independence to freedom. The freedom to make choices. A short-circuit between aesthetics and education received during childhood. I grew up to be a non-constrained person and this has led me to elaborate this concept of imperfection which is the constant of all my collections that we could simply call imperfection I and imperfection II. A tension to perfection precisely in not being perfect, for an opening to every individuality possible, to reach an imprecise balance.
You have collaborated with icons of Madonna’s caliber, how is work with personalities of this level? Do they left to you some creative ideas for your next job?
I worked with Katia and Marielle Labeque who became my friend and Viktoria Mullova. It was thanks to them that I also came to dress Madonna. Artists have volcanic personalities, thirsty for novelty and curiosity with their powerful imagination, for me, they are always sources of inspiration.
What are your plans for the future?
Make women happy with my clothes and my imagination.
