Kim Jones is back on the catwalk to present Dior’s Pre-Fall 2019 Men’s collection in Tokyo, Japan.

The fulcrum of the show was futurism in all its facets, embodied by a giant robot and some of the items in the collection, in collaboration with the Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama.
The brilliance of the robot is then taken to perfection on some pieces such as Tyvek metal jackets, iridescent jacquard suits, shiny metal bags and steel baseball hats.
But as futuristic as some of the pieces were, Kim Jones said his inspiration came mainly from the history of the house. In fact, he chose three of the most important codes of the Dior archives, such as the pied de poule, the panthère print and the pink color, and he reinvented them to adapt them to our days. And not only.

Kim Jones, in fact, has also been inspired by his host country, which has fascinated Mr. Dior from an early age.
While pieces of cherry blossoms seemed a little cliché for a show staged in Japan, subtler influences such as kimono-like jackets and coats with details similar to those of karate uniforms, have achieved an ideal balance between traditional influences and modern clothing.
The collection was strongly based on tailoring, but definitely a new, softer type, designed to adapt to today’s trends inspired by the street.
