What happens when fashion meets subversion? Without any doubts, an unmistakable aesthetic like Dion Lee.
The designer, who is originally from Sydney, always tries to follow the experimentation in fashion, and once again, he surprises us with the Fall 21 22 show, alienating us from the concept of traditional tailoring and offering us another ticket to explore his bizarre and abstract world.
The collection analyzes the affinities between the animal world, from which the name “HORSEPOWER” is taken, and humanity. This cohesion is expressed in the strength of the tailoring’s crafted shapes and the extremely architectural cuts. The work carried out by Dion Lee could be resemble to the role of a sculptor, because he discovers the body, chisels it and almost bares it with transparencies, nets and perfectly geometric cut-outs.
The attire is utilitarian, sometimes resembled the goth and the bondage aesthetic, defined by corsets, stockings, straps, metallic rings and parts of tech fabrics, waterproof materials, nylon, jersey or eco-leather that define the body creating a break with the skin. Even cotton, as a candid and basic fabric, highlights the silhouette, embracing it with draping effects or deep necklines. A significant importance is covered by the monochromatic block of colors, which not surprisingly recalls the neutrality of the skin, the mantle of animals and the natural elements on earth. Gray and black alternate purple, peach, cream, denim and metallic green.
The accessories are the common thread between the public and the collection, they explore the concept of the collection recalling the saddlery and practical objects needed to explore the outdoor. High boots, ankle boots, huge bags, belts, buckles, chains and ecological furs give volume to the body, creating a second contrast with the adherent lines of the items.
