Beyoncé, Bella Hadid, Kyle Jenner. . . What do these three stars have in common, besides, of course, their enormous popularity? Charlotte Knowles! If this name means nothing to you, it is time for you to be informed. Many celebrities are literally going crazy for this designer in recent times, showing off her creations on social media. Creations that certainly do not go unnoticed for a vision of audacious and deconstructed femininity.

Fresh from school, not just any one but the Centra Saint Martens, and enrolled in the Fashion East program, Charlotte Knowles never had the time to formulate her brand identity properly following its rapid and stratospheric rise. Together with his partner Alexandre Arsenault, he quickly founded his eponymous brand, renamed KNWLS during the pandemic, for strategic reasons. But whatever the name or the story from which it all started, it doesn’t matter, because its design speaks for itself.
To better understand its aesthetics, you have to take a journey back in time and catapult yourself into the 90s. Try to remember your adolescence spent watching MTV and reading I mean, dreaming of wearing the animal prints of the Spice Girls, Christina Aguilera’s short-waisted trousers, Madonna’s pointed bras, crop tops and round glasses, and Britney Spears‘ tails during your teenage years The video for “Baby One More Time. ”
It took more than thirty years for all these items to come back on trend and be re-considered to make a noteworthy look. On the other hand, fashion is a wheel that always turns. Yet it is not a simple nostalgia for what was the first epoch to have begun the transgression, but much more. The desire that is, on the part of the two founders, to transmit a new idea of femininity.
It’s like Charlotte’s trying to tell us that there’s no reason to believe that underwear can’t be a visible part of a woman’s wardrobe. That’s why leather corsets, bustiers and bras become essential items in an entire collection. Accompanying the whole thing: viscose pants, vaguely cyber draped dresses, leather nails and lightweight elasticated suede dresses whose prints seem to give life to feline silhouettes.
This is just a small taste of the FW21 collection which, through a careful and ironic game of concealment and revelation, knows how to show a sensuality and composite provocation. It’s not sexy clothing, it’s radical chic. Whether you want to imitate Beyoncé or feel nostalgic for the Spice Girls, now that you know the brand, you won’t be able to do without it.
