Surely you remember the events of 2015 signed by Adidas Futurcraft. The German brand had surprised us before submitting a prototype shoe with uppers made from waste recovered from the sea, then with another crazy innovation, special shock-absorbing midsole made via 3D printing.
2016 has just begun but Adidas is back with a new beautiful project called Futurcraft Tailored Fibre.
It is a revolutionary technology that allows shoes to fit the individual athlete, that wears a mix of cutting-edge and craftsmanship expertise that has led to the production of special machinery that literally cut the fibers around the foot, exactly as a tailor with a dress.
This process will allow the customization of specific functional areas to adapt the shoe to different needs dates by weight, posture or any other factor, it will also ensure the substantial reduction of waste that remain using traditional industrial procedures.
Alexander Taylor, Open Source Industrial Designer, said: “The development of Futurecraft Tailored Fibre is a significant step for adidas in Futurecraft series, and the ability to create a shoe that is really designed for the needs of each individual athlete”. And he added: “For a long time we have experienced with the knitting, and it was important to build on this knowledge and have innovated with other tissues of the family of technologies. It was only after the discovery of the technique of substitution of fiber, more common in the automotive and aerospace manufacturing, we have been able to develop this innovative approach”.
While Ben Herath, VP Design, commented: “Futurecraft Tailored Fibre is an incredibly exciting and revolutionary project. Despite being only at the prototype stage, we are already seeing the unique and infinite possibilities that this production technique could offer us and, most importantly, consumers”. And again: “The idea of Futurecraft series for adidas is to continue to set the agenda when it comes to combining the craftsmanship in the production of shoes with the latest technological innovations. Tailored Fibre is another step in this direction”.
To better understand this special innovation, Adidas has created a special video presentation, which you can see below.
