After the success of the first collection last autumn, Raf Simons and Fred Perry are ready for a second collaboration. The designer’s avant-garde style meets the streetwear elegance of the British brand, creating a new capsule collection. Once again inspiring the entire line are the youthful influences that have animated London’s most famous basement for years: The 100 club. A reminder this time emphasized through the pictures taken between 1982 and 1983 by Bryan Flynn.

Unpublished photographs of London in the 1980s are printed on patches with edges sliced on archival pieces such as sweatshirts, parkas and polo shirts. One of the most interesting garments is the white blazer with a classic cut but with a slightly punk aftertaste in which scribbled phrases like “Another Land” and “Time is by our side” do not go unnoticed. Other highlights of the collection are the oversized shirts which often accommodate, next to the archive images, small black and white checkerboard inserts. Also present is the iconic laurel corolla of Fred Perry, joined by the lettering “Raf Simons”.

The final result is a collection that reveals a face of the youth subcultures in a version never before told, almost like a photo album of the golden years of the British capital. Basic garments and neutral colours give a distinctive design, clean, essential and elegant but at the same time not too far from casual. It’s like Raf Simons came up with a more minimalist version of punk. The entire collection will be available on Fred Perry’s web store from May 13th.
