‘Volta Jazz<\/strong>‘ is the name of the ss22<\/strong> collection by Wales Bonner<\/strong><\/a>. A reference to nostalgic and bluesy images of West Africa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The name already takes us back to the heart of this area where the Volta basin<\/strong> is located, a symbol par excellence of the cultural exchange that took place there in the 70s<\/strong>. And so this unmissable collection is born between vintage garments<\/strong>, portraits of the ‘Volta Studio’ by Sanl\u00e8 Sory<\/strong> and Afrobeat jazz by Fela Kuti<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At a time when the culture of West Africa is experiencing a real rebirth, it is nice that someone is able to take the creativity of the time to transfer it to garments. What comes out of the collection is a style\u00a0that revolves around what are the recognizable classics<\/strong> of 70s<\/strong> fashion but which also mixes with new minimalist pieces<\/strong> of the 90s<\/strong>. In addition to presenting jacquard fabrics<\/strong> and embroidery<\/strong> typical of the African tradition, some\u00a0Adidas<\/a><\/strong> items are chosen, such as the timeless vintage track jacket<\/strong> or the jogger, which are then used not to give life to a classic sportswear but to create a completely new look.\u00a0Thus sneakers and joggers are replaced with turtlenecks<\/strong>, trousers<\/strong> and slippers<\/strong>. Wales Bonner<\/strong>\u00a0gives us alternatives: no more restrictive tuxedos for formal wear but fluid trousers<\/strong>, low collars<\/strong>, even flip-flops<\/strong> can become elegant for him. And yet the jumpsuits can become formal dresses, with a bright print<\/strong>, wide pants, a turtleneck and a slim-cut<\/strong> jacket. Comfort, fit with an American top and a matching green and yellow skirt, the most popular colors in sub-Saharan<\/strong> colonial flags.<\/p>\n
