Matthew M. William<\/strong> started to look after\u00a0Givenchy<\/strong> creative director\u2019s dresses last year, but we hadn\u2019t really seen him on stage in his new position yet. Well, what could be better than a new era with a subversive<\/strong> and cutting-edge show<\/strong>? <\/span><\/p>\n

The show<\/strong> was held on a runway filled by water, the location<\/strong> was such a humid gallery with concrete details around it. Models<\/strong> appeared dressed in items far from the rules of a canonical, traditional and conformist luxury.<\/strong> We could define it as \u2018the new Generation Z luxury\u2019.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Williams<\/strong> is totally personified in the role of a huge and tireless experimenter, staying on the rise of a fashion that wants to change the game\u2019s rules<\/strong> with an aesthetic mixed between the utility style and traditional tailoring. Overall,<\/strong> the man<\/strong> seems to be returning from a science fiction trip, suddenly catapulted into a rave made in the Parisian underground.<\/strong> The woman<\/strong> similarly wears dresses made in a contrasting style. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

First,<\/strong> items are extravagant, sometimes bizarre and confusing. Any examples? Naked parts <\/strong>\u2018covered\u2019 by bondage bras <\/strong>and transparencies, balaclavas, vinyl, dark tech fabrics and chains.<\/strong> Another unexpected detail were the boots inspired by the Alexander McQueen\u2019s Armadillo shoes,<\/b> from the\u00a0\u201cPlato\u2019s Atlantis\u201d<\/strong> show. In 2010 they were considered as excessive, but in any case they were brought back by Williams<\/strong> like a grotesque, extravagant and subversive element, that wanted to whisper the new William\u2019s kingdom aesthetic revolution.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand,<\/strong> we find a basic and elegant tailoring, sequins, feathers and laminated fabrics;<\/strong> colors<\/strong> such as purple, orange and cream are warmer than the first one, confirming the eclectic<\/strong> experimentation. Even the use of furs<\/strong> in the collection, which is almost completely unusual now in the fashion world, was a risky choice<\/strong>. T<\/span>he creative director\u2019s aspirational ‘goal’<\/strong> is clear: to regain possession of a brand that has lost its identity over time. So, to make this happen, Matthew Williams<\/strong> has to own a new, fantastic exclusive dimension. <\/span><\/p>\n
