\u201cAn alternative haute-couture maison\u201d.<\/em> These are the first words by Daniel Roseberry<\/strong>, Schiaparelli\u2019s creative director, while talking about the new couture collection for the Spring Summer 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The designer merely follows the stylistic revolution that Elsa Schiaparelli,<\/strong> the Coco Chanel\u2019s \u2018antagonist\u2019, began in the 20s.<\/strong> Sculptural dresses whisper the Cubist<\/strong>\u00a0and African art,<\/strong> but also the year 1924<\/strong> when Andr\u00e8 Breton<\/strong> published the Surrealist Manifesto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the Manifest<\/strong> he wrote: \u201cPsychic automatism in its pure state dictated by thought, in the absence of any control exercised by reason, exempt from any aesthetic or moral concern.\u201d <\/em>Words that Schiaparelli<\/strong> made instantly as own words.<\/p>\n

Her experimental dresses gave shape to her thoughts – \u201cexempt from any aesthetic or moral concern\u201d \u2013 <\/em>they followed an avant-garde aesthetic<\/strong> that Roseberry<\/strong> is proud to perpetuate in order to challenge the \u2018rules\u2019 of the Parisian<\/strong> fashion.<\/p>\n

Garments<\/strong> break down gender clich\u00e9s, they work on the body,<\/strong> wrap it and exalt it without asking them about its nature. Precious stones, marmoreal jewels, gold locks<\/strong> and piercings<\/strong> embellish Schiaparelli\u2019s dresses; they exalt the shocking and make us to reflect about the real meaning of \u2018beauty\u2019.\u00a0Ellenistic chiseled bustiers<\/strong> exalt silhouettes as if they were contemporary heroines<\/strong>; they call for the picture of woman as mother, with the iconography of Madonna and the Child.<\/em><\/p>\n

Schiaparelli\u2019s theatricality is exalted by metres of Baroque<\/strong> fabrics;<\/strong> they embellish the original silhouettes between silks, velvets, sequins<\/strong> and lighter vaporous fabrics. Among the details,<\/strong> a big shocking pink bow stands out, in addition to Surrealistic lines in accessories<\/strong> and also cargo pants, that replace traditional haute couture skirts.\u00a0“They are clothes that make you aware of your body, that make you think about how you move in the world” <\/em>told Roseberry.<\/strong> \u2018Schiaparelli\u2019s dress\u2019 challenges the concept of ‘charm’ and explores it with fantasy<\/strong> and fun.<\/p>\n
