When we talk to others about ourselves we always say what we do, and never how we feel.

If in a banal conversation at the bar the person sitting in front of me asked me: “Tell me a little about yourself …” I would expect this answer: “My name is Marianna and in my spare time I write articles, I do things, I keep myself in short, busy “.

Can you imagine if instead I replied: “I am Marianna and I have always felt different from the others because on every occasion I feel any amplified emotion”. Everyone would look at me like I was crazy, and after a laugh to ease the tension they would continue: “No, seriously, tell me what you do in life …”

We talk about ourselves constantly with people to be able to make ourselves known, but when I talk about me, I talk about what I do and not what I feel. Emotions are something to keep in check and control because we blame them too often for being the cause of our missed goals. It is those uncontrollable and irrational things that ruin our plans in a nutshell. Impossible to have problems or be sad in a society where only the likes of our Instagram photos count.

Being young in the 21st century is therefore not child’s play at all. Forced to post our best face on social media and woe to reveal even the slightest hint of sadness (it wouldn’t do as much as a beautiful bright smile).

Sadzylla however shows us just the opposite. The instagram profile of this artist takes our emotions, even the most negative ones, and draws them without too many words in sincere illustrations that tell the most vulnerable side of Generation Z. We are the generation of anxiety, fear and recovery time itself of things. A complicated, contradictory generation that reflects in every detail the modern times in which we live.

Giulia Corona in real life and Sadzylla on intagram is a 22-year-old young illustrator who finds the courage to talk about how she feels and not about what she does. Her skills as an illustrator are a means of telling us something profound and capable of making us all reflect.

Sadzylla was born in the summer of 2018 and the first publications were short writings that the artist had kept in the notes of the phone for years. After a while her thoughts became vignettes with Giulia’s self-portraits.

“I am quite physically petite, but (especially at that time) I had a rather heavy soul. If I had to say briefly what the name means I would say: Sadzylla is a giant steeped in sadness“.

The artist’s illustrations speak of his most intimate and fragile side. I think there is no braver thing that can be done. The instagram profile is therefore a sort of diary of Giulia where she draws and shapes her life. There is what he experienced, everything he did not have the courage to say and what he dreamed of having without ever being able to get it. “It is not only a diary of events, but also of desires and losses. I have never been able to write about anything but myself.”

But what pushed me to talk about this artist is the way in which she manages to bring together romance, irony, sadness and disillusionment all together without anything being able to clash even for a moment. The ability to look at the world with enchantment and amazement, but without excessive naivety I think it is an art that Sadzylla has managed to express with his illustrations.

What matters to Giulia is being able to bring out feelings, emotions that cause her discomfort and give them an eternal shape. Emotions, especially the most uncomfortable ones, regain their power and it is recognized that the more a feeling causes discomfort, the more true it is.

And to those who accuse her that she is only “a dispenser of negativity and depression” Giulia replies that those who see only this in her works must necessarily be a lack of disarming spirit. In short, you can never please everyone. The most important thing, perhaps, is to learn to like yourself. And we start to appreciate each other only by facing our emotions and sensations, even the most negative ones.

Well at this point I would say it’s time to take courage and take a journey through your emotions on Sadzylla instagram profile.

And if you believe in the power of illustrations you can’t miss the article on The illustration of Emma Allegretti and Nourie Flayhan for Gucci Beauty

Have you ever thought that when we have to talk about ourselves, we always start with the phrase: I’m a guy, and I do this and that.
