Voguing really established itself in the \u201980s in New York<\/strong>, especially Harlem, where it was danced during the Ball Room.<\/span><\/p>\n

But what is a Ball Room and above all what does it have to do with the TV series on Netflix<\/a>, ‘POSE’?<\/h4>\n

Ball Rooms and Ball Culture are just one<\/strong> of the reasons why POSE should be seen and in this article we will explain them all, obviously avoiding spoilers<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

The TV series is set in an ‘80s New York<\/strong>, during the rise of the Trump<\/strong> Empire, where the African-American LGBT community<\/strong> was on the fringes of society.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being repudiated by their families and rejected at work did not prevent members of the LGBT community of that time from helping each other<\/strong> and gathering in places where they could finally feel accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The emancipation of the African-American homosexual community is then also addressed in relation to the spread of AIDS<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the various seasons, in fact, we discover that many of the characters are sick and we live with them the pain of the death of friends.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a place where the LGBT community meets today and where wonderful things happen.<\/span><\/p>\n

A ball is a dance challenge<\/strong> or runway<\/strong> and there are categories, an audience, judges, and trophies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of the categories include challenges to Voguing<\/strong>, a style of dance that consists of imitating in a fluid or rigid plastic poses of models<\/strong> during fashion shows or on the covers of Vogue magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Houses or families<\/b><\/h2>\n

The members of the various Houses<\/strong> compete during the Ball.<\/p>\n

What are they?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

At the time when POSE was set, the Houses were real families and the members lived together with also a ‘mother’<\/strong>\u00a0and a ‘father<\/strong>‘.<\/span><\/p>\n

All the components of these families were chosen.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

You will see how the characters, who were previously removed from biological families, that will be welcomed and cared for by ‘parents<\/strong>‘ who love and accept<\/strong> them as they are.<\/span><\/p>\n
