Born Seoul, raised in Oklahoma, graduated at\u00a0Parsons School of Design<\/b><\/a>\u00a0in 2017 with the collection \u201cExcessivism<\/b><\/a>\u201d, winner of numerous competitions including\u00a0Kering Empowering Imagination Award<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Yooxygen Award by Yoox<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The designer we’re talking about is the high demanded\u00a0Ji Won Choi<\/b><\/a>, and it’s exactly the winner collection to describe her aesthetic, characterized by\u00a0important silhouettes<\/strong> bold and funny.
\nThe collection’s name comes from the namesake artistic movement<\/b>, which consists in the reinterpretation<\/b>\u00a0and in the\u00a0overuse of materials<\/b>,\u00a0<\/b>used as vehicle for denounce the nowadays\u00a0consumeristic society<\/b>.
\nThe collections is composed by jackets and tunics kimono-shaped\u00a0<\/strong>with abstract and sculptural<\/strong> lines, in blue, red, white and black tones, combined by the unavoidable stripes repetition<\/strong>\u00a0that enhance the design.<\/p>\n

The first of her numerous\u00a0collaborations<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0Ji Won Choi x Yoox<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0launched in April 2018, and conceived during the designer’s 6 months stage, in the\u00a0Yoox<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0‘s headquarters in\u00a0Milan<\/strong>:\u00a0 the result is a more commercial<\/strong> and sustainable<\/strong> version of her collection.
\nCreate based on primary colors<\/strong> and versatile silhouettes<\/strong>, the stripes are used as a recurring element, recalling graphically the barcode<\/strong>, symbol of the modern\u00a0consumerism<\/strong>.
\nThe womenswear\u00a0capsule collection<\/strong>\u00a0includes a selection of tops, dresses, skirts and trousers\u00a0color-block<\/strong>, entirely realized with natural fibers<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In February 2019, the designer has presented, during the\u00a0London Fashion Week<\/b><\/a>, the first collaboration with\u00a0\u00a0Adidas<\/b> Originals<\/b><\/a>, by reinventing the iconic three stripes with a “deconstructed”<\/strong>\u00a0concept<\/strong>. Based on the movement<\/strong>, and declining the items in lavender, navy, red, green and pink shades, paid homage to the iconic Adicolor <\/b>line. The objective of the project<\/a> was \u00a0to realize items that transmit confidence to who wear them, through a clean and linear silhouette<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Another collaboration<\/a><\/strong> with the\u00a03-stripes\u00a0<\/strong>the same year in july: this time, entirely realized in black and white<\/strong>. A choice that enhance the\u00a0silhouette\u00a0<\/strong>of the garments highlighting the characteristic stripes both of\u00a0Adidas<\/strong> and\u00a0Ji Won Choi<\/strong>. A new back and white tracksuit’s concept that recalls the korean design in a feminine and streetwear\u00a0pr\u00eat-\u00e0-porter<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the moment,\u00a0Choi\u00a0<\/strong>is one of the 12 fashion designers protagonist of the original series\u00a0Amazon Prime<\/strong> “Making the Cut<\/strong><\/a>\u201d, in which she continue to amaze us with her creations grabbing the attention both of the jury and of the public.<\/p>\n

In the meanwhile, on social media<\/a><\/strong>, shows her new creations, realized rigorously\u00a0#stayingathome<\/strong>. By using bright tones fabrics coming from her travels, she’s continuing to shape clothes that recall her korean origins<\/strong>, by declining the iconic striped motif<\/strong>\u00a0in new versions, for example the western fringe style<\/strong> one.<\/p>\n
