Milan, via Gesù, the last day of fashion week and a perfectly autumnal climate: who would ever expect that on such an iconic day an event as iconic as a Versace show curated by Kim Jones and a Fendi show by Donatella Versace would take place.
Yes, the event held in one of the Versace residences in Milan was a real show reserved for a very select few. He brought together the most influential supermodels of today and yesterday on the catwalk and among the public artists such as Dua Lipa, Elizabeth Hurley, Luca Guadagnino, Demi Moore and many others.
Donatella and Kim Jones (Fendi female creative director for pret-a-porter) have been working on this project since February 2021, a project that we will absolutely not call collaboration, Donatella specified. The designer, in fact, believes that there can be exchanges of ideas between designers, but that in any case everyone should work on their own vision of the brand.
This is how the two designers did it, effectively swapping roles. Kim has designed Versace garments in her own way and vice versa Donatella, giving life to two collections that will arrive in boutiques in May. No garment has been invented from scratch, on the contrary there is a great deal of study of the archives of the two Made in Italy brands.
Versace by Fendi
Kim played a lot on black for dresses ranging from tight mini dress to long total black lace dress, with shoulder straps by Fendi, but not only.
Its models also show off dresses, jackets and costumes that reflect the classic Versace gold prints, all embellished with necklaces, shoulder straps and jeweled belts with the Fendi monogram or Fendace lettering. Black, white, gold and pink, the colors on which the collection inspired by the Versace of the 90s focuses.
Fendi by Versace
Here Donatella’s footprint is very incisive. The designer brings a brighter Fendi to the catwalk using one of the most used fabrics by the Medusa, oroton. A soft, shiny, almost metallic fabric makes up the very sensual Fendi dresses created by Versace. Gold, silver pink and black dominate the catwalk with almost rock tones.
In addition to the items just described, worn by Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowsky and Naomi Campbel, the protagonists of the catwalk are also the brown suits that incorporate the Fendi monogram fabric accompanied by caps on which the Versace brand is embroidered.
But also more casual suits in which the designs of the Medusa brand blend with all-over prints of the Fendi monogram.
