A Little bit of the Story
It all started in 2007, about fifteen years ago, when Greg Chait, founder of the brand, came up with the idea of reproducing a cashmere blanket he fell in love with at a friend’s house.
After creating a few pieces, Chait began selling his blankets, along with pieces of knitwear, in some Los Angeles boutiques and then again to increasingly important retailers, including Barneys.
Greg Chait’s success was almost immediate thanks to the very high quality of the raw materials used and the craftsmanship he immediately relied on. The cashmere used by The Elder Statesman is among the finest in the world: it comes from the Middle and Far East, but also from Italy, for a price of up to $ 500 per kilo. It is then spun in America in specialized centers.
The Elder Statesman garments are truly original, so much so that production is limited to a few units per collection, maximum 50. It is as if Chain wanted the sweaters, accessories and, more generally, the articles produced to maintain their own uniqueness. To confirm this idea is the official website of the brand which offers the personalization of items among the main sales services.
With the “Custom Embroidery” label central in the Home of the site, the intent of the brand is clear that it is not just to sell, but to give a unique and high quality product that can be part of a wardrobe forever.
Another element that definitely characterizes the fashion label is the use of color: sweaters, blankets, trousers and slippers are very colorful. Tie dye is the most popular in the latest collections and is experienced in all its forms. We also have the classic stripes, vertical and horizontal, or checked motifs and flower embroideries.
In 2014, the first Flagship store was opened in West Hollywood, while in 2015 one was opened in New York. The online personalization experience of cashmere garments was launched in 2019.
Perfectly embodying the Californian style, a mix between casual and bohemian, characterized by soft cuts, The Elder Statesman has established itself in the fashion world, creating its own little niche.
