Photographer Peter Lindbergh died yesterday at the age of 74. The announcement of the disappearance of the famous Peter Lindbergh comes instead today, directly from his Instagram account.
Born in Leszno in 1944, Peter Lindbergh was one of the most important photographers in the international fashion scene, immortalizing, often in black and white, top models for the most famous magazines of this field.
The characteristic that made him famous was to be always able to immortalize his subjects, almost without make-up and in very natural poses.
Lindbergh, has in fact introduced a new form of realism, redefining the standards of beauty, influenced by documentary photographers, street photographers and photojournalists like Dorothea Lange, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Garry Winogrand.
His approach to photography has always followed a humanist vein, but above all his greatness has been in changing the standards of fashion photography in times of excessive retouching, communicating that it is not only beauty that makes a person interesting.
To pay homage to Peter Lindbergh’s work in the best way, it seems right to conclude this way:
“This should be the responsibility of photographers today to free women, and finally everyone, from the terror of youth and perfection. A fashion photographer should help define the image of women or contemporary man in his day, to reflect a certain social or human reality. How surreal is today’s commercial agenda that touches up all the signs of life and experience, to hide the truth of the face itself? ” – Peter Lindbergh
