There are designers who make clothes and accessories by vocation, but there are also artists who produce garments using them as a tool to communicate themselves. This is the case of Antonio Polizzi APOOO‘s founder. A brand “beat” from the soul and independent, not accustomed to fake glamour, but that knows how to create modern and stylish bags.
Interview with Antonio Polizzi founder APOOO:
When did you decide to create APOOO?
Exactly three years ago. I did an exhibition in which the protagonists were three materials that corresponded three concepts, which then are the three “o” or “zeros” of my brand’s logo, depending on the reading that a person wants to give it. There I found that the leather was, compared for example to the plexiglass, easier to mold according to my concepts my ideas. From there the bags, which I call “containers of disorder”.
How did you choose the name of the brand?
Like I said it was all a result of the exhibition. Actually APOOO is not just a logo, but also the idea of the circle, which is infinite … A concept that I make my own and that reflects the quality of these bags made from unique leather, of my land, Sardinia.
What is the meaning that you want to convey with your “container”?
A very personal one. I try to communicate with them something that comes from within, that excites me. These bags are the result of my inner dialogue; in doing so I carry the balance in and out myself.
What is the styling approach that you follow in creating APOOO bags?
I start from the material, which follows immediately a clear idea. These two elements thus traveling in parallel, as happened for the ninety degrees angle, very complex to implement, which is the protagonist of all my pieces. Also I do not line the bags: I want the product, although the best manufactured, it remains raw, true.
What are the most challenging aspects in emerging as a brand?
In general it is difficult. For me though, I start with such force of mind along with my bags and going to introduce them in stores. I meet all the owners and it is great beacuse sometimes they give me some good advises. Even if it all, as I said, part of me. I think the personal approach is really imporant, in this way customers perceive as true what they buy, that is my “containers”.
Future projects?
Soon I will go to Paris to present the new collection. After Berlin. I’ll participate with a permanent installation made of plexiglass in a shop that sells APOOO. The work is a real container divided into some unique materials from Sardinia. This place is very important for me because it is the primary tool that allows me to carry my bags. As well as my family, which is crucial in the realization of all my accessory.
