Etnia Barcelona, a well-known independent eyewear brand, is often inspired by art and culture and never misses an opportunity to collaborate with creative and artistic personalities from all over the world.
His latest collaboration is with Ignasi Monreal, a Spanish artist known for his particular illustrations in the field of fashion. Already accustomed to issues of style, he had previously collaborated on the presentation of Gucci’s SS18 with Alessandro Michele, the creative director of the maison. The illustrations, oneiric and surreal, are the vision of fantastic worlds, in which the epic mixes with the contemporary and technological world, with all the luxury and aesthetics of the tailoring garments of fashion houses.
The “enfant terrible” of 21st century Spanish painting has created glasses that are more reminiscent of a collector’s item than a simple pair of eyewear.
Starting from the reading of “Ways of Seeing“, a text by John Berger, his reflection moved in a direction that re-invented eyewear, equipping it with another “pair of eyes” that would have the function of broadening the vision peripheral. The two ‘talisman’ eyes would seem to say:
“where you don’t arrive, we are there, your gaze is not your limit”
Available in three colors: black, tortoiseshell and mother of pearl.
With a constant gaze towards Velázquez, Dalì, Goya and Picasso, Ignasi Monreal evokes Picasso’s simultaneous vision of Cubism and applies it to a ‘new’ concept: fashion.
The background of the campaign is Rome, the artist’s second home, shot by Paolo Zerbini and directed by Monreal himself. His sense of humor and romance reflect the eye’s inspiring journey around the Italian capital.
