Supreme collaborates with the American rock band Butthole Surfers giving life to a capsule that celebrates the most memorable works of art of group recalling origins of the New York brand as a label founded by skaters, for skaters.
Debuting as a hardcore punk band and famed for their chaotic live performances and absurd lyricism, Butthole Surfers originated in 1981 in Southern California and grew up through the use of non-traditional instruments in experimental sounds with a punk and metal style.
Thanks to their anti-establishment ethics, to which they owe their success in part, they were a staple in the 90s’ skate culture.
It’s no coincidence that Supreme decides to pay homage to the group by making its own what were, and still are, the Butthole Surfers’ distinctive trait: album covers, designed by band itself.
The collection is a well-deserved recognition of the band’s importance in skate culture. T-shirts, hoodies and shirts retrace the image collection of the eponymous EP by Butthole Surfers, the debut album Psychic, Powerless, Another Man’s Sac, Rembrandt Pussyhorse from 1986 and its follow-up Locust Abortion Technician from 1987.
Entire Supreme Butthole Surfers capsule is already available on supremenewyork.com.
